Fundraising
Dinner!
On June 19, fifty-one supporters and well-wishers came to St. John's Lutheran School in the blue-collar Detroit suburb of Taylor to enjoy spaghetti and discussion of Michigan education policy. After some preliminaries on the problems in Michigan education shared by Keith Steffke of Education First C.U., State Representative Jack Hoogendyk related his "core values" to state educational policy and contrasted them with policies supported by U.S.Senator Carl Levin. Then Dr. Zeile gave the keynote, "If it's about the Children, Children need choice." With examples from his own career in education and his own life, Dr. Zeile made the case that since children are different from one another (even siblings!), more than one educational choice needs to be available for them, whether public schools of choice, parochial schools, charter schools, homeschooling, or other instructional delivery system. State policy needs to facilitate educational choice. This policy will not destroy public schools, but rather make them stronger.
In addition to U.S.Senate Candidate Jack Hoogendyk, we were honored by the attendance of 1th CDRC Chair Bill Beddoes, 13th Congressional District Candidate Ed Gubic, and UofM Regent candidate John LaFond.
